Pre-Season Week 5-6

October 30, 2023 - November 11, 2023

The Go Kart Is Complete.

After three long weeks, our team has finally finished the go kart preseason project. Our members had a fun time taking turns test driving the robot! We plan to drive it around to showcase it during Ram-a-thon this Friday to display its abilities. It is an amazing first build for new members as well. Throughout the build process, our members had the opportunity to get to know our newer members, and use the time to bond with each other, while learning new skills along the way.

Continuing Training!

Our sub-teams are continuously training and preparing our new members. The programming team is now learning about classes, which will help define a template to create the objects needed. The programming team is sharpening their knowledge by programming the go-kart, and patching any bugs they encounter on the way. Our fabrication team is learning how to use their designated tools, such as a saw and its different types of blades. They will then apply their knowledge to improve the go-kart, making its design more ornate. Our electrical team is educating our members of the many electrical parts contained in a FRC robot and polishing off the go kart, while assuring all of the parts work in harmony. In order to ensure the safety and well-being of our members, we had a safety lecture, showing them the correct ways to handle the robot without getting injured. We taught them about the 3 core ideas of safety: prevention, mitigation, and treatment. We also cleaned up the workshop, helping to avoid any unfortunate mishaps that might happen.

Mentor Interview: Mrs. Fong

Have you ever participated in Team 2204? If so, when?

I participated when I was a freshman. By the time I was junior, I was team leader. I came back to CCA because my sister was on the team.

How did you get into robotics?

When I was a freshman, Joni Carlson started first robotics at CCS. She was looking for people to join the team. I was not a “STEM” person but was told I had great leadership potential.

What is your favorite part about mentoring?

I really like seeing students coming in and joining the team with little to no knowledge about anything to do with robotics but then grow to know even more than I do.

Do you think the team will have any trouble this year?

Every year there is trouble. Continuity always been an issue. I hope that this year’s troubles would be learned from last year and hopes everything would just go smoother.
